The Barr Foundation would like to make its tribute of the week to one of San
Francisco's finest and Laura Callahan, the owner of a local SF neighborhood
drinking establishment, for conducting a highly successful charity benefit
event held on May 25, at the Mission Bar in the Mission district.

The owner /proprietor Laura Callahan coordinated and held the 200 plus
standing room only charity, to benefit the Barr Foundation , a Florida based
non profit 501 (3) organization, in its mission to help amputees around the
world and specifically from the SF Bay area, whom otherwise would not have
the financial resources to achieve prosthetic rehabilitation. The benefit
raised over $10,000 in less than 4 hours!

We, of course and as always, thank our loyal annual gift giving members, the
Deupree Family Foundation, Mr.& Mrs. Frank Vest, Richard Neu, the family of
S. William Levy MD, donor newbies Clark Coleman, Steven Kirchner of the
Greenwich Capital Foundation, and our many Hope Donor Members and others.

In attendance, was S.F. police officer Eric Batchhelder who lost his own
leg, in a hit and run collision which occurred just 6 months previously.

His Irish smile and already incredible ability to walk made it difficult to
notice he was wearing prosthesis. Eric was discreetly nudging (without
force) patrons to bid higher on over 30 the auction items donated by local
stores and businesses for the event.

I became associated with Eric upon learning of his accident, from his (and
my prosthetist) and fellow Barr Foundation board member, Wayne Koniuk CP
owner of San Francisco Prosthetic Services.

Mr. Koniuk is also amputee Chad Crittenden's prosthetist. Chad was the CBS
TV reality show series, Survivor Vanuatu competitor, from Oakland
California.

A week previously we made arrangements to have Eric evaluated by Dr.Jan Ertl
of Kaiser Permanante Hospital and for him to be considered as a worthy
candidate for the Ertl amputation reconstruction procedure.

This remarkable advancement in amputation surgery was performed on San Jose
State University Spartan football team player Neal Perry

recently performed on Heather Mills McCartney in late April.

The Ertl Procedure betters the chances of amputees to obtain total and
complete prosthetic rehabilitation outcomes.

Other Ertl Amps have been Navy Seals, who have been able to return to active
duty in the Mideast, ultimate fighters, Iron Men/triathlon competitors, and
law enforcement officers.

Eric is a 2nd generation law enforcement officer and a fine young man. I
was very impressed with his demeanor and the role he is set to play. He
holds no anger of his accident. He has the personal fortitude and will to
remain on the SF PD,if he wants to. The Barr Foundation is going to help him
in any way we can. He has a great prosthetist that will compliment Dr.Jan
Ertl's reconstruction procedure. We'll be auctioning Eric with his new Ertl
limb and me off next year, so better save up your money!! said Tony Barr
the Barr Foundations president.

The silent auction of donated prizes and the hugely hysterical gut busting
Live Auction, sold dates to the highest bidders with one of the seven
Mission Bar's employees and some other volunteers, netted over $10,000 in
donations in less than 4 hours.

The Mission Bar also donated a portion of its sales to the Barr Foundation
however outdone by the lucky and successful bidder for a date with Laura
Callahan who generated the highest bids for the evening!

Fun was had by all and it was this east coast person's final impression
following the event,

that if anyone, including the S.F Cop Shrink Squad, thinks someone, anyone
might need some therapy, they should have attended the event themselves.
There is always next year!

Thank you Laura, Eric, prize donors, bidders and the Mission Bar employees
and patrons.

You all have big hearts and what they did, does matter! I look forward to
next year!

We are also proud to announce that Heather Mills McCartney received the Ertl
Procedure in late April and is on her way to a successful prosthetic
rehabilitation.

I and Jan Ertl arranged for Heather Mills McCartney to recognize the
benefits and receive the Ertl Procedure. This came about as the result of a
series of private meetings with her, myself and Jan over the past two years
in Boston,LA and England even during couple of concerts where Paul was
performing.

Dr. John Ertl, Dr. Jan and Dr. Will Ertl have been incredibly supportive and
responsive to our efforts. Some 30 additional surgeons are performing the
procedure regularly in the USA and abroad and some 50 Ertl Prosthetic
Providers are also listed on the ErtlReconstruction.com web site.

Each week the Barr Foundation sends a salute to an organization(s) person
(s) and/or Hope Donor(s) who have made a great difference in a life.

Such Whole Again stories will hopefully help makes your weekend ....and
reminds you, knowing that most of you became professionals and industry
providers to get into this business to help people; you are accomplishing a
tremendous amount

and are sincerely appreciated.
