Bill the facility, and have them bill insurance. Dan Oglesby CPO

If serial casting is in your expertise go ahead. In other words do you have documented expertise in serial casting. As you know many of these casts are put on by or for the physician in clinic. How much liability exposure are you willing to risk doing them a favor, and maybe not get paid for it. How about offering them an Ultraflex Orthotic hinge of some sort. I don't want you to be the chump if anything goes wrong, where does your malpractice liability cover this type of activity. I know we put on post op prosthetic casts, and use external joints with fracture bracing, but the materials of cast padding and such on a regular basis is expensive just in materials. Why don't one of there OTs or PTs to it? Maybe they won't get paid enough, and in the realm of reality and the current price of gas what are you going to get for it. Have you taken any formal training such as a Beverly Cusak, who I think is an OTR giving you a formal defined speciality course. It does n!
 ot sound
to me like this is going to be a very rewarding experience financially or professionally. I would talk straight to the physician. It sounds like this PT clinic thinks you can walk on water. If you can go ahead and save the world too.
  Best Regards, Rick/CPO

AT OUR LOCATION THE PT'S DO IT BECAUSE OF TREAMENT CHARGES VS. L CODES

for a variety of reasons. we as orthotists do not bill for serial casts. they would be billed using CPT codes, and I am not enough of a legal expert to determine if we in O&P can or cannot bill CPT codes.

I only know of PT's because they can bill time!

I am located in Southern Florida and do serial casting on kids, Some of
the private insurances are paying following the Botox injection. I do
most of the serial casting for a Clinic and get payment through the
Clinic,

To my knowledge it is illegal to serial cast patients if you are not under the direct supervision of a physician or LPN. Thanks,

Here in Nebraska I was doing serial casting for a Pedi-ortho doc in conjunction with a botox clinic. I was successfully billing Medicaid using L2999...Serial Casting, short-leg, each.

Kris, You are correct you cannot bill for serial casting, but in many cases dynamic bracing works even better. There are L-codes for our products and Ultraflex provides product only to certified Orthotists and Prosthetists. Attached is an article that may help.
