Was hoping some one can let me know if there is anything I can do about the
following situation. Our local hospital started an orthotic contract to go
to the lowest bidder of course. I had and continue to have no interest in it
because the CEO is looking for major Medicare discounts, the therapists have
first bids on doing the braces in house. They fit their own cash and hip
abduction orthoses,( thanks orthomerica) so basically what is left are the
nightmare jobs, must respond with in 30 minutes 24 hours a day. To my point
when i received the contract to bid on I noticed that somehow stump
shrinkers were on the list with all the orthoses the hospital might normally
order. What's happened is that another practitioner in town who has the
contract is picking up EVERY amputation con on this end of the city. I feel
there is something very wrong with this picture because the patient will
not receive a prostheses until they are out of the hospital. I can see the
orthotics, fit in house.
Could a hospital only refer to one at home health agency for
services the patient will get when they get home, and exclude all the other
companies?. Do I have anything here , is there any law or rule that I don't
know. I also se it as the Medicare beneficiaries aren't being given the option
of choosing which practitioner they want to see, they are not being given
any options of Medicare OandP providers.thanks for imput Phillipe
