Since my last post I have received a number of responses. Some
are just plain irrelevant. Others are from manufacturers or suggestions of
who to contact at manufacturers. I appreciate the time and effort of those
that have bothered to respond, thanks. However, manufacturers were not the
ones I truly wanted to hear from.
Not that I am against their input. Were I in the market for a
CAD CAM system, I'm not, or if I wanted to compare prices I would be glad to
hear from them. The people I wanted to hear from are the end users,
prosthetist/orthotists using the systems in their clinical practices. Simply
put I am curious about two points.
One, it apparently was not easy to modify P&O CAD CAM systems to
produce AFO models. Was it worth the effort? Are people using the capability
routinely? If so what are the advantages? If you tried it and stopped, why?
Two, it is possible to take measurement for a spinal orthosis
and have a central fab lab do a very credible job of fabricating an orthosis
and receive it the next day. Cost aside, why bother to use a CAD CAM system
to carve a model and produce an orthosis from it?
In a nut shell that's what I would like to know. Thanks again to
all who responded.
