TO THE WOMEN OF O&P
In response to the Woman of OandP meeting at the Academy earlier this year,
OPGA requests your attendance to our Women's only M.A.S. Seminar to be held
at Northwestern University P&O Center, July 8-9, 2006.
Our course is designed to re-familiarize everyone with basic AK
fundamentals, learn of the history of AK socket designs and how Marlo Ortiz
got where he is today. It is indeed an advanced design. After the two day
course, clinicians leave with a tool that they can go back and use
immediately. In order to open the class for woman to learn among their
peers, Jim Andreassen, president of OPGA, envisioned this opportunity so
that all may learn in a different environment than previously offered. In
order to host one of our MAS seminars, we need at least 20 attendees. I
would like to highly encourage my fellow female prosthetists to attend this
innovative socket design seminar.
At the Academy gathering, over 100 women attended. I challenged them to take
on this Advanced Socket design....Make it part of the toolbox we as
clinicians have to offer appropriate patients. Sharing this historical
event will be members of the major OandP publications, and women from all
backgrounds. Please consider supporting this one-time only event in an
effort to teach those who want to learn. Together, we can bring all
clinicians in the field to the next level of AK fittings so no one gets left
behind.
As Clinical Director of OPGA, I have had many opportunities to visit
member's offices over the last three years. Many female patients have
attended our Patient Care Clinics and informed me that they have never met a
female prosthetist. AK patients especially mentioned a preference for a
female clinician but none were available. Many members have female
clinicians that do not fit higher level prosthetics; orthotics and
pediatrics take most of their time.
Marlo Ortiz's design was originally inspired by one of his picky female
patients. This seminar is our way of acknowleging her tenacity and resolve.
Marlo's presence, along with John Michael, CPO, FAAOP as lead lecturer, is
the core of our group. I am an assistant instructor with Marlo and John.
Please come share with us this extraordinary event. Let's continue with the
vision of the Woman in OandP meeting and support eachother.
I look forward to meeting many of you in July. Please call me at
800-847-4919 with any questions you might have.
