I have a TF patient wearing a proflex w silicone socket who uses a
lotion with melaleuca oil in it to assist in donning. His previous
socket had gotten a split down the side and somewhat soft with age. The
new socket, which is only about 4 months old is beginning to get the
same symptoms and I now wonder if the melaleuca oil is effecting the
chemistry of the proflex. If you are not familiar with meleleuca, it is
oil from a tea tree in Australia and is supposed to have medicinal
properties. The patient swears by it but I wonder if I need to advise
discontinuing its use.
Thanks if anyone has knowledge of this or a source for someone who might.
