My original question was:
Does anybody else have a problem with this ebay listing? Somehow it
seems improper to me.

<URL Redacted>

or search ebay Item number: 4445772007

My inquiry to the listing party about my concerns resulted only in a
solicitation to purchase a mobile practice in Michigan and or Florida.

Hi Ted,
Funny way to sell a business. Thanks for sharing that. I was amused
by their $.99 and up Disney brick-a-brack galore, also for sale at their site.
It seems that this owner has had enough of the road-warrier
Rat-Race P&O business model, and I can't blame them. I imagine that
most in the certified practitioner circles will pass this buyout
opportunity up. So, maybe an entrepreneur on e-bay will find their
business/franchise dream opportunity! I imagine that a buyer will
have to provide their own licensed practitioner after the transition
period. Sounds like another P&O business that may be owned by a
non-practitioner someday. I don't see a problem with this ad. On the
other hand, I wouldn't want to take the investment risk or apply for
the future road warrior job.

>Ya gotta hand it to him (or her) How easy would it be to float around the

>Not a bad plan, although there are better way to succeed.

Just an FYI - He is also listed on the AOPA website under the O&P
Employment Opportunities for Displaced Professionals if you are
interested in who is behind it. It does seem a bit worrisome to me -
fortunately I am from Canada!

Good Luck with this ethical debate - you may be able to contact e-bay
if you really think this is unethical - they have taken things off
their site before.

Ted the internet is here to stay. Get with the times. How is this offer
to sell a business any different than an offer in in an O&P publication?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So you don't get a mobile unit to drive around? Like an O&P
Winnebago....

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gee, I wonder if I could sell XXXXXXXXXXXX that way.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What a bargain. I can't believe that you're not bidding. I mean
some chairs, a router, a computer , a rented store front and a van
all for the low price of $750K What a deal! And so convenient for
the patient.

How far has our profession fallen!

On first glance, this looks a bit odd. However, in today's ever
changing business environment, Ebay has become a standard for
marketing almost anything. While I sincerely doubt that there will
be any real interest generated through listing this type of business
on Ebay, I do not believe that any ethical boundaries were
crossed. However, this certainly crosses a new threshold of ways to
market an O & P practice.

>I find the wording of the ad to be very unusual.

End of responses.

Essentially no concensus at all in the responses. My concerns were
not that listing a practice on ebay was improper, quite the contrary
on that. I do find the style of the listing offensive. It would
appear from the ebay listing that you can get rich quick if you just
buy their Medicare biller number with it's clean record. The
complete lack of mention of any need for certification and licensure
also strike me as odd. On the whole I can't say it does anything to
elevate the image of the profession.
