This material is in many ways similar to the Otto Bock lightputty and/or
Bondo but a smoother consistency. Our application was intended to
rejuvenate an old pin suspension laminated socket for use as a
shower/beach and fishing prosthesis. It currently fits with 18-20 ply of
socks. The prosthesis had been worn for about one year on a new younger
traumatic amputee. It worked and met our needs. It is somewhat technique
sensitive so that you don't fill up the pin and lock system but is not
overly challenging. The technically inept can probably handle this quite
well if you read the instructions - first - like I did this time. I did two
thinner applications as instructed and was able to reduce the volume down to
a 5-7 ply fit. On the first application I was a little tentative and did not
over accelerate or add lots of promoter. We probably had to wait a little
longer for it to cure, about 15 minutes. The second layer was promoted more
quickly and set in the promised 8-10 minutes. The finished surface was
fairly clean and only required a little bit of tech time to wet/dry sand and
give a nice smooth surface. While curing it smells just like polyester
resin, person with sensitivities should do this application in a very well
ventilated area. The green color might be an issue for some people. I did
not try to pigment it. There are areas of green visible at the proximal
brim. Bond seems to be really good, I could not chip it loose. We allowed
the product to cure overnite before sending home with patient.
If you are located in a professional building you might get some neighbors
complaining about the odors. We did. I would even consider doing this
outside vs. in a patient room next time.
All in all - a good product to have around if you do a lot of laminated
systems. Does not work for thermoplastic sockets. Plan ahead, it cannot be
shipped overnite.
