Here are the responses to the following question:

I have 2 questions about sources of carbon fiber products we have that we don't know where they came from-
  1. flat carbon fiber braid on a roll, about 5 inches wide, not tubular, who makes it?

  2. Flat carbon fiber laminated sheet material, it was a square piece probably 16x16 and about 3/16 thick. It is very rigid, and somewhat heat moldable. Who makes it?

The 16 square sheet (if shiny) is probably an old USMC product

that was available in a few different thicknesses - it went off the

market a long-long time ago. It was touted as being heat

mouldable and suitable for foot orthoses but it wasn't workable

enough for anything other than a sole plate type orthosis with

minimal wrap around. I've heard of someone laminating their own

sheet material between glass, don't know what the application was

or the results though.

  Nathan-
I Know of a source for the Carbon Fiber Braid on a roll- Dennis Amtower of Amtower Bionkenetics in Norwood Massachusettes can provide it- If you call him, let him know that I sent you his way...

Nathan,

Our company has the carbon braid that is not tubular available on a

roll, we

also have carbon fiber matting. In addition our DS 2002 resin

composite,

20 x 24 sheets are also available, I am not sure of your fabrication

or

intentions, but these are very popular items. Please call mr at your

convenience to discuss the options.

PEL SUPPLY HAS CFLB-728 FLAT CARBON. AND WE HAVE 076083 FROM FILLAUER

AND

MCC-412 CARBRON SHEETS FROM BECKER. HOWEVER BOTH ARE 12X12.

  Fillauer sells both.

The flat carbon laminate is probably either polycar-c from fillauer or compcore from Becker. It is a polypro base impregnated with carbon. It should be heat moldable like you stated. There are other sources but those seem to be our industry favorites.

The flat 5carbon is probably from Becker though I have not seen it in their catalog for quite a while. They used to sell it as part of their ultra-g line of materials.

Also got a response that Otto Bock has the flat laminate as well
