Text:
As health care providers in Orthotics and Prosthetics, the incidence of
wounds and wound care is very prevalent. We evaluate transtibial amputations to
determine if they are ready for weight bearing, healing and accommodating
diabetic ulcers, design and modifications socket designs regarding wounds. It is a
subject that we encounter on a day-to-day basis, in which we are constantly
making clinical decisions. There has been no sort of formal education has been
developed specifically for the field of orthotics and prosthetics.
A wound care symposium has been established and designed. The symposium
brings together nationally preeminent speakers in wound care to provide a two-day
symposium that is specifically designed for the rehabilitation professional.
Topics include:
-Skin as an Organ and Related Conditioning Pre and Post Ulcer
-New Concepts in Ulcer Management
-Diabetic and Venous ulcers
-Neuropathy
-Charcot Osteoarthropathy
-Epidemiology,
-Pathophysiology,
-Principals of Management,
-Dressings Selection,
-Principles of dressing selection,
-Dressings for Different Wounds,
-Survival Wound Care kits for the prosthetic and orthotic
user.
This will be a compressive symposium specifically geared to educate the
rehabilitation team, so bring yours. It is not to make wound care specialists out
of us, but build a firm foundation in wound care education on which we can make
perspicuous rehabilitation recommendations.
This program has been approved for up to 15 credits through the American
Board for Certification in O&P. Full participation in this program is required to
be eligible for the full amount of credits.

This educational symposium was designed as a NCOPE prosthetic residency
project. It is designed to be a non-profit; the required fee is to cover the
expenses of the symposium. There is no product solicitation motivation, just
awareness and didactic lectures.
