Everyone,
I would like to thank all of the volunteers and supporting
organizations/companies who provided prosthetic
rehabilitation to 48 POOR ECUADORIAN AMPUTEES
early this month. The 'Prostheses for Ecuador' project was
initiated by Dino Cozarrelli, CPO several years ago and
provides a vehicle for practitioners and donors to provide
prostheses to patients in Quito, Ecuador at the Fundacion
Hermano Miguel clinic: www.fundacionhermanomiguel.org/
This year's mission was generously supported by the Barr
Foundation, SPS, Ossur, O & P Enterprises, Friddles,
numerous patients, and private practices who have sent
volunteers and their used but useful prosthetic components
to people who need them the most. The growing success of
this project reflects the humanity and a spirit of goodwill
that exists within our field - without which none of this
is possible.
A remarkable story from Ecuador emphasizes the concept of
empowerment through mobility. Last year a patient with
bilateral below-knee amputations was provided prostheses by
the 'Prostheses for Ecuador' team. His name is Marco Polo
and true to style he went exploring this last year bringing
in 12 NEW PATIENTS who had lived for years without access
to care.
Anyone interested in volunteering or supporting future
projects can contact me directly or visit

Sincerely,
David Krupa, CP
