Please find the responses for silicone restorations query, thank you all
for your help.
Good Morning,
I would recommend you check out www.factor2.com. They offered a week
long class out in Tempe, Arizona last year that I attended, and we would
not be where we're at today without it. The classes are taught by one
highly skilled David Trainer ( <Email Address Redacted> ), and you can see
samples of his work on their web site. David has done a lot of work in
the special effects industry as well. I know he, along with Indiana
State University, are in the process of preparing for another class on
orbital prosthesis for later this year.
Good luck,

This is some research I did for a friend of mine who was interested in
maxillofacial reconstruction. I'm pretty sure Factor 2 has the classes
you're looking for - and any materials you might need to construct the
prosthesis. You'll have to review the rest of the sites to see if they
are relevant.

Hello Ron, I discussed this very same issue with many of the providers
at the last AOPA meeting. They were all willing to show me how to take a
mold (which I already know) but were not willing to bring somone in to
train on the techniques. This skill is very protected and I have known
some of them to go to their grave without sharing their skills. You may
want to look up anaplastology and see if any schools teach this subject.
If you find anything out, would you please share?
Ron,
Check with RL Steeper. They even have some classes lined up with
Shriners somewhere this year. My friend took the course and helped me
with the silicone check socket on a guy, but then sent the skt to the UK
to finish. I don't think they take the class any further than the check
socket modification and fabrication. I heard of a place in California
that offers something more. I could find out the name if you don't get
a response back on the listserve about it. I'd be interested in finding
out what else is available. If you don't post responses, would you mind
sharing the results with me?
