From my experience, I agree. I don't know if the procedure had a catchy
name but when Dr. Rinski of Stanford Hospital, CA performed my amputation,
he had me in surgery for over 3 and a half hours and used anesthesia on all
the nerve endings before they cut. Their advantage was that they were
cutting through perfectly healthy tissue with no trauma and so I have never
had phantom pains in this past 12 years. I have had real pain during
recovery from surgery for 6 months, and of course mucho pain due to lousy
prosthetic fitting. Very rarely do I feel my phantom foot itch or my
phantom ankle twinge though I'd hardly call this pain. I just remind myself
it isn't there and it goes away.
The reason they were cutting healthy tissue, BTW, is that they were cutting
through the margin of safety zone for cancer (chondrosarcoma in my right
ankle).
No, it has almost baffled the prosthetists I've seen as to how to address
such a perfect stump. Dr. Levy, the recently deceased amp skin specialist
from in Motion fame, said my amputation was one of the best he had seen and
the break down of my skin from the quack prosthetist was one of the worst.
Truly, the prosthetists deal with problematic amputees better than high
level of activity/ normal wear amps. Outfits like Novacare tortured me for
about 4 years as my Aetna insurance would only let me see them. I always
say, if your leg's gotta go, have it done the best way, certainly not the
quickest (well unless you're not in a real surgery theater).

I want to thank Eric Robinson of College Park Industries in allowing CPI rep
and Ertl amp Ron Mann describe, at the various O&P trade shows during his
exhibitions, the benefits of receiving the Ertl Procedure to give him an
extra edge in his professional ultimate fighting carreer, and to Ohio Willow
Wood, Raymond Francis LPO ,Larry Corley and all those listed on the web site
whom remain strong advocates of the Ertl Procedure and promote it to their
patients and surgeons in a number of ways.
Over 30 surgeons, who recognize the benefits, now perform the procedure (or
variations thereof) on a regular basis in the USA and abroad. They are
listed on the ErtlReconstruction.com) can web site as well as Ertl amputees,
and prosthetists that fit Ertl limbs. Want to join up and be listed as a

As always, I'd be interested in receiving subscribers comments and
