I'm a little confused about Medicare and their coverage of Foot Orthotics.
It use to be anyone with a foot deformity and/or weakness would qualify for
orthopedic shoes and/or foot orthotics, if needed. Then I started reading
articles (I believe in O&P Business News.) about Foot Orthotics not being
covered. Then Medicare stopped covering Orthopedic shoes unless it was in
integral part of an Orthosis. So I called Medicare and they said L3000-L3030
is a covered service. So I continued to bill Medicare for the Foot
Orthotics. Since then, I've had patients tell me our competition has told
them Foot Orthotics (L3000 - L3030) are not covered for anyone under
Medicare. I'm a little concerned Medicare has steered me wrong (wouldn't be
the first time). Am I billing for items not covered? If so, why are they
still paying for them instead of rejecting my claims? Thanks to all.
