Dear List,

  Original Question(s):

What are your experiences with the night relax & relax liners for the reduction of phantom limb pain?

Have you been able to get reimbursed for these products, and if so, what codes &/or descriptors have you used?

What pain medications are the physicians in your area utilizing? Neurontin (sp?) seems to be the popular choice in SE PA, with hit or miss success.

  Responses:

I have ordered one of the same style sheath for an Above knee patient and advised him to wear it during the evening and during sleep. He advised me it worked very well for him and eliminated most of his phantom pain. Grant it he was the only one I gave it too so take it for what it is worth. I ate the cost because I needed to know myself. No way to get paid for them. Cost is expensive so I have not used them again until I hear of a code for coverage.
  --------------------------------------------------
Unfortunately, I do not have any codes for you, as I have not yet had
the
opportunity to use this product. However, our Medi rep. introduced
this
product to me and I am wondering if, in your experience, this liner
really
does decrease phantom pain.

As far as pain meds-Neurontin is widely used.
----------------------------------------------------
I have tried them on several patients 100% report a significant reduction in phantom sensation.
  ----------------------------------------------------
My patient reports that wearing the silver liner sheath from comfort helps her under her shrinker sock, and during the day under her pin locking liner.
  ---------------------------------------------------

  Thanks for your input!
I'm going to try the silver liner sheath first; the patient already wears a sheath under her liner during the day and has been wearing her shrinker at night in attempt to thwart the pain. We'll see.
