Several weeks ago when the back and forth was going on as to how PTs are equal to CPO's , I posed a question because a PT was outraged that some one would say they are trying to do it for the money. The question was, are you PTs that are doing O and P going to stop double billing ? Plain and simple, you know exactly what I mean , but just incase, we ( Orthotist and Prosthetist) get Medicare allowable for the device, we cant charge extra for office visits ,when we cast , deliver and up to 3 months of follow up, its included in the allowable. Whereas when PTs use the L codes ,in which the reimbursement is exactly the same as for us they also bill for each and every visit in regards to the O and P device, there by making just a low ball of 3 times as much as we do . Who is willing to step up and state they wont bill for PT time when fitting or doing anything in regards to delivery adjustments etc? What gets me also is the APTA doesn?t want to have to abide by the Medicare s!
tandards , which are a nightmare and will get much worse, you want to be excluded from that ( seems convenient) all that time and energy and man power that we have to do for a 3rd of what you are receiving. All qualified Pts let all of us know if you will stop billing for pt time when doing O and P , and how with a straight face can you say you shouldn?t have to abide by the same Medicare standards we do, Heck . . Of course there will be one or 2 cases where PTs don?t do this , there are always exceptions and in this case very few, so how bout hearing from all the others. Phillipe R. Cartaya CPO
