To my esteemed colleagues,
I have been asked to help in the treatment of an Iraqi soldier in Iraq who is a left BE amputee. He had been fitted with a cable powered prosthesis with a hook terminal device at the American hospital in Bagdad. He is a Lt in the Iraqi army and apparently there is some concern about his ability to lead his men because the prosthesis makes him look less able to lead. I am aquainted with a physician here near Seattle who's husband is stationed over there and she asked me if I could help. It appears that the prosthesis is fairly conventional with fig 8 harness, triceps pad, dacron hinges, friction wrist, and #7 hook. The prosthesis was made a bit long and he has self modified the #7 hook to shorten it a bit. I would like to provide him with a cable operated hand and a smaller hook. They originally thought I could provide a myoelectic prosthesis but that would be impossible both technically and cost wise. I am looking for a donation of a left cable operated hand and !
 a shorter
hook. The hand would need to be fairly large because the circumferential measurement they sent to me is almost 10 inches. I first questioned that but they sent a photo with the tape around the mp joints and it's 9 7/8, so a size 8 or 9 would work. Does anyone have any of these laying around that we could use?
Thank you all for sharing in this forum.
Sincerely,
