Weston Resident and Prosthetics Expert Kevin Garrison Recounts Struggles and
Victories as an Amputee in New Book; Reading and Signing Thursday, Jan. 19,
at Borders' Aventura Store
Aventura, Florida - Jan. 16, 2006 - Kevin S. Garrison, author of the
life-affirming biography It's Just a Matter of Balance, will conduct a
reading and booking signing Thursday, Jan. 19, at the Borders store at the
Aventura Mall. The reading will be at 7:30 p.m. at the store, 19925 Biscayne
Boulevard.
Garrison was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a type of bone cancer, when he was
16 and eventually lost a foot to the disease. He began wearing a prosthesis
at 17. His book recalls the initial heartbreak and then inspiring climb to a
normal teenage existence when he played sports, dated and worked on cars.
A native of Cleveland, Garrison completed his prosthetic education at the
University California in Los Angeles and Northwestern University in Chicago.
He is a certified prosthetist by the American Board for Certification in
Orthotics and Prosthetics and a licensed in prosthetist in Florida.
Living in Weston, Florida, with his wife and son, Garrison now devotes his
life to helping other amputees at the company he founded and runs,
Garrison's Prosthetic Service, Inc., which has three clinics in Broward and
Dade Counties.
Just recently. Garrison's book was listed as an inspirational source on the
web site of rocker Paul McCartney's wife, Heather Mills McCartney, who is

Part of the proceeds from Garrison's book are donated to The Barr
Foundation, a non-profit organization that supplies prosthetic limbs to
needy amputees. Anthony T. Barr, president of the organization is expected
to be at the Jan. 19 reading and signing.
Kevin's remarkable book will also be featured in the new Amputee Survival
Guide scheduled to be distributed January 28,2006.
