OPAF Receives Wadsworth Golf Charities Grant
Langhorne, PA - December 15, 2005 - The Orthotic & Prosthetic Assistance
Fund (OPAF) is pleased and proud to announce that they are the recipient of
a Wadsworth Charities Golf Foundation grant for 2006. OPAF has been awarded
Wadsworth grants in the past, but this is the largest grant received from
Wadsworth to date for OPAF.
These funds will allow us to continue providing First Swing clinics to
those individuals with physical challenges and limb differences said Robin
Burton, OPAF Executive Director. We plan to schedule more First Swing
clinics in 2006. This grant will help us to extend our reach and affect the
lives of more people in need. The most recent First Swing clinic sponsored
by OPAF was held in conjunction with Walter Reed Army Hospital in
Washington, DC, for returning soldiers from Iraq and Afghanistan.
Wadsworth Charities Golf Foundation is dedicated to improving society
through embodiment of the moral, ethical and cultural codes of the game of
golf. Golf is a good and powerful teacher. Allowing more of society to
experience its lush, wind-swept classroom is our purpose.
First Swing is an adaptive golf program, developed by Bob Wilson, National
Amputee Golf Association Executive Director and bi-lateral amputee for
instructing therapists to teach and encourage the game of golf to those with
physical challenges. The program is sponsored in conjunction with the
Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Charitable Trust and the PGA.
OPAF is a 501 (c)(3) public charity, serving as the official philanthropy of
the U.S. orthotic and prosthetic community. Originally established to
provide support to the 1996 Paralympics, OPAF now generates its own
initiatives through partnerships with individuals, organizations and
institutions to provide health and wellness programs for those with physical
disabilities, especially those served by the O and P community. First Swing
and First Volley, adaptive tennis for ambulatory players are among programs
offered by OPAF.
