The Barr Foundation would like to thank everyone who helped in donating to
the Barr Foundation for the rehabilitation of over 150 amputees this past
year.
Nearly 1200 amputees, located in the USA and the Americas, were provided
prosthetic rehabilitation whom otherwise would have not had the financial
resources to obtain it for themselves.
This would have been possible without the ongoing assistance of
prosthetists, industry, manufactures, the O&P media and individuals whom
have donated money, services and components.
The Barr Foundation www.oandp.com/barr a federally recognized 501(c) 3 non
profit organization ID # 38-2205199 since 1978 , assists amputees whom
have no other resources of funding, to receive prosthetic rehabilitation ,
and to advocate and actively promote proper amputation surgery thur the Ertl
Osteomyoplastic Amputation and Reconstruction Procedure. see

This year taxpayers, both corporate and individuals, can deduct more for
charitable contributions. A federal law adopted to help Hurricane Katrina
victims contains a one time provision that lifts limits on the amount you
can deduct for charitable donations for the year 2005.
Ordinarily ,that deduction is limited to 50% of adjusted gross income
(donations that exceed the cutoff can be now carried for up to five years)
To encourage giving ,the new provision allows donors to deduct contributions
of up to 100% of their adjusted gross income.
There are is also an option of setting up a charitable annuity where the
Barr Foundation will benefit from contributions each year.
A Charitable Gift Annuity is a simple agreement between the donor and the
Barr Foundation. It is a combination of a gift to Barr Foundation and an
annuity. After transferring cash, securities or other property to the BF,
the donor receives payments for one or two lives. The Barr Foundation can
make these payments monthly, quarterly, semi-annually or annually.
Additionally, the donor receives a charitable tax deduction based on the
remainder interest of the annuity contract and a partially tax-free return
of principal from the annuity.
Upon the death of the annuitant, the Barr Foundation will retain the
remainder of a gift annuity to:
Establish a named Community Impact Endowment Fund (unrestricted),
Create a named Field of Interest Endowment Fund,
Begin a named endowment fund for a designated non-profit organization, or
donate to an existing endowment fund already held by Barr Foundation..
A letter of understanding signed by the donor provides instructions for the
type of fund the remainder will establish along with any specific
designations.
Please check with your own accounts but I believe this is a accurate summary
of both scenarios.
Regardless, I hope you know the Barr Foundation will be a good custodian of
the funds you choose to provide to us.
I remind the listserve subscribers as well, that donations are our primary
funding resourse to assist an additional 100-150 amputees in the USA alone,
each year.
You may also make a individual donation to the Barr Foundation (address
below) or credit card directly via online to the Barr Foundation (see
www.oandp.com/barr) Every donation will be acknowledged in writing for your
tax purposes.
Thank you for your considerations of contributions as we end year 2005.
There is no greater gift than to provide a person with the ability and
dignity, to be able to walk and provide for their family again ,
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays..
