Barr Foundation's Weekly Salute Goes to All the Folks that Have Helped Amputees
Text:
As we approach Thanksgiving and turn our thoughts to things we are thankful
for I can't help but think of those who have given their time and money to
make dreams become reality for what is now over 1200 amputees.
When I met Tony Barr in 1994, I was looking for a way to provide limbs for
amputees with no sources of funding. Tony and I came up with an idea of
paying for or providing the component parts that go into a prosthesis. We hatched
a plan and put the word out, that if a practitioner would sponsor an amputee
by providing his services for free, the Barr Foundation in cooperation with
UASA would provide the components.
We started with a dream to provide limbs for those who could only dream of
the day they would be whole again.
We were quickly overwhelmed with the number of people willing to help as
well as those that needed help.
Thanks to our donors and sponsors we have never had to turn anyone truly in
need down. I don't know what is more incredible, the fact that we were able
to, through our prosthetist/sponsors, help 1200 amputees or the fact that
there are so many that needed our help.
I salute Tony, The Barr Foundation, the sponsor in prosthetists and Hope
Donors for making the dreams of more than 1200 amputees come true.
I am thankful for your help and grateful to have had the opportunity to
help.
Sincerely,
Jack Richmond
