Dear List members,
I thank all worthy members who responded to my appeal
and expressed sympathies and concern over wide spread
destructions and loss of valuable lives in 8th October
quake in north Pakistan.
Original message is below:
--------------------------------------------
Dear List Members
It is the worst quake in the history of Pakistan and
also the worst in this region in 100 years. The
current estimate of dead is around 50 thousand and is
increasing in thousands every hour. Life to many
survivors would be meaningless or merely a suffering
and frustration if they become crippled. Many
thousands are feared to loose their limbs or getting
paralyzed due to spinal or head injuries. More and
more would need splints or orthoses for their limbs.
Many survivors may undergo surgical procedures for
internal fixation of bones or reconstructive surgery.
Ahead is a big challenge to rehabilitate the people on
such a massive scale.
Let me introduce the HOPE Rehabilitation Society which
is Pakistan’s big Non Profit and charity Organization
approved and certified by the Government of Pakistan.
Hope has a modern prosthetic and orthotic set up in
Lahore and is only organization whose limb service in
majority of the cases is free or sponsored. Hope is
pioneer to use modular limb technology with vacuum
formed sockets. Hope is the largest organization to
provide the post operative thermoplastic and extension
spinal braces, fracture braces and other custom made
orthoses direct to in door patients of local
hospitals.
HOPE hereby announces to volunteer to supply 100
percent free of cost limbs, orthoses, splints,
implants and other orthopedic goods to the needy
through our mobile teams and relief agencies. We are
informing all organizations locally to contact HOPE
for all types of orthotic and prosthetic needs. We
have trained staff and modern tools and machinery to
provide custom made items.
Thorough this message and appeal being sent to all the
worthy and soft hearted global members of the OANDP
LIST, manufacturers, service providers and global
welfare organizations to come forward and contribute
to the maximum.
Following goods can be sent quickly
1. Prosthetic components
2. Orthotic components like orthotic joints
3. Cervical supporting collars
4. Foot and hand splints
5. Arm slings
6. Compression and crepe bandages
7. Plaster of Paris bandages
8. Implants
9. Wheel chairs
10. Stockinet rolls
11. Plaster Boots
12. Finger splints
13. Dressing materials
14. Crutches
If mobile workshop units are available anywhere the
same can be procured for out reach services.
GOODS TO BE SENT ON FREIGHT COLLECT BASIS WITH CLEARLY
LABELING ‘DONATION FOR EARTHQUAKE VICTIMS”.
Pakistan International Airlines announced Charge Free
and Carriage free Service for Donated Goods
Transportation.
HOPE Rehabilitation Society is responsible for all
carriage or duties or customs costs, etc.

Following are the responses:
1. We are trying to send 6 boxes to you but our
automated shipping system needs fed-ex account numbers
to bill to, do you have these or can you tell us what
carrier we should ship with if not fed-ex.
You have our hearts and prayers
2. Our prayers and condolences our for the people of
your country's
devastating earthquake.
We will gather and contact all local Orthotic &
Prosthetic
manufacturers, O&P patient care facilities, and
medical supply companies in the New
England area of the United States.
We have contacted the Pakistan consulate, M.H.
Shaukat, for the proper
paperwork and procedures to get the donated items to
your organization
via Pakistan International Airlines.
I understand you have set up a modern facility. In
addition to the
items on your list, will raw materials: sheet plastic,
foam, or Cad/Cam
foam blanks be helpful?
3. How do I arrange for pick up of donatable items
with the airlines?
My prayers are with you.
4. I would suggest that you set up a way to accept
donations via credit
card.
Shipping to Pakistan is expensive.
I believe Alimco in India has a whole line of cost
effective prosthetic
and
orthotic components which might make more sense to
obtain for your part
of
the world.
I would be happy to contribute via visa card when your
hospital web
site is
ready to accept this form of contribution.
5. I HAVE BIL-LAT LONG LEG BRACES, THEY ARE FOR A
SMALL PERSON, OR AN OLDER CHILD, THEY ARE ALMOST BRAND
NEW!! I'AM A SMALL COMPANY IN WICHITA, KS. SO I CANT
AFFORD TO SEND THEM, LET ME KNOW WHOM I CAN GET TO
PICK THEM UP FOR FREE, OR A LITTLE AS POSSIABLE.
We are replying and contacting individually to all who
replied
