I have recently learned of the passing of Dr. Hans Richard Lehneis. Our profession has lost yet another icon. Dr. Lehneis was a prestigous clinician who chose innovation over standards. As a teacher he made difficult concepts easy to grasp. Under his employ he was quite demanding of his clinicians, but through this they grew. I had the honor of knowing Dick as all, a mentor, employer, and most of all a friend! It was Dick who instilled in me the need of contiuing education and support of the Academy. A day does not go by that I am not using some bit of advice or skill that was taught to me by this man. It was Dick who taught me to view the patient has a whole person, not just a BK or AK. He will surely be missed. To all who knew him well, I don't understand will always have a special meaning. My condolences go out to Fred, Ricky, and Roger.
Sincerely,
