My esteemed colleagues,
I have a patient who has been wearing diabetic shoes for several years due to diabetes and associated foot problems including partial foot amputation, neuropathy, etc. She had a pancreas transplant and is no longer officially diabetic. She still has the diabetic foot problems, such as decreased sensation, decreased circulation, etc. She also just had the first toe amputated and some tendon releases. She has an Rx for custom shoes. Any thoughts on billing Medicare for diabetic shoes. I want to be completely up front with her and with Medicare. Thanks.
