Dear List,
I recently asked for techniques for attaching ak foam covers to sockets. Results are summarized below. Thank you to everyone who responded.
.................................................................................
1. Laminate 2nd shell over socket
(or use scotch cast to make shell)
Glue cover to shell
Attach using screws
2. Otto Bock Method:
Coat inside of cover with Kleber glue
Attach with velcro
3. Sew or glue on velcro tabs
4. Use Gorilla glue
5. Use Double-stick tape from Ace Hardware (fiberglass mesh type)
Roll back top to cover and apply tape
Secure to socket before shaping
6. Pelite method
This is a method we've been using that works good, but the attachment to the socket needs some work. Pull a pelite cone over the socket instead of laminating. Glue to cover and shape as normal. Fast and easy. If anyone tries this and can come up with a really secure attachment method, let me know.
7. Bill Contoyannis sent in a technique where you use firmer density foam for the distal cover bonded to softer foam proximally (seam at knee joint). He even forwarded a powerpoint presentation for cad-cam covers.
Thanks again to everyone who responded. This thing really works!
