We are located in Miami and would welcome any patient in need and
displaced by Katrina. Our community has been helped many times in the
passed so we would gladly reciprocate.

There will operational capabilities in one or two weeks in Slidell,
Louisiana. I am the residing O&P practitioner at Parr Prosthetics and
would be able to help whoever needs assistance.
I am, like most, waiting on power to be restored. Now emergencies will
be treated via generator. Please let your lists know that we are still
here and ready to continue the best care on the North shore.
Thanks.

In Memphis we are very aggressively distributing local support and ACA
contact information to hospitals, prosthetists, and relief agencies.
This information includes info re: prosthetists, mobility DME,
availability of amputee peer visitors, access to Memphis Amputee
Support Library, and direct access to the ACA.
We are in contact with the ACA support group leader in West Lake, LA
(between Baton Rouge and New Orleans). We are also receiving
information re: amputees and people facing amputation throughout the
State of Mississippi.
The biggest concern expressed to us by the Red Cross is about amputees
who either during the hurricane, or when evacuating, developed
dangerous infections in residual limbs; and are being treated with
tissue grafts/revision surgery.
Please do consider the ACA and our local support group, Out On A Limb -
Memphis Area Limb Loss Support, as an important part of the team. I
believe that we can be of a lot of help to OANDP, and to your amputee
patients as well.

As a psychologist in South Africa I may not be able to help directly,
but if someone needs emotional support and has access to
e-mail, I would be able to give support.
I work full days as a researcher but am available at night from Monday
to Thursday.

Ohio O&P Colleagues,
As of today Ohio has begun to accept individuals displaced from their
homes by Hurricane Katrina in the Gulf Coast Region, and we will open
our facility to provide needed prosthetic care to these individuals.
I will also gladly serve as an information point to maintain a list of
O&P facilities willing to do the same in our State so that we can all,
in some way, do our part to share in the burden of caring for these
unfortunate individuals.
I will also contact the American Red Cross to make them aware of this
so that word can get to those individuals who may need O&P care.
I ask that any O&P Facility in Ohio wishing to participate in this
Relief Effort to contact me indicating the O&P services you are willing
and capable of providing, along with the following information:
Facility Name(s)
Address/Location
City/Zip
Contact Person
Phone Number
I would also like to ask for assistance from Prosthetic Manufacturers
and/or Suppliers who are willing to donate essentials such as
prosthetic socks, gel liners, suspension sleeves, and/or primary
components, within reason, if needed.
Lastly I am asking that the Academy take on the task of coordinating
this effort on a national basis by identifying State O&P Coordinators,
which I would be willing to accept being designated for the State of
Ohio.
Thank you for your willingness to help those affected by
this devastating disaster!

That is today's listing. If interested in being of assistance, send
mail to :

with details you wish published and you will be added to the next
listing.
As more offers arrive, a list will be published on OANDP-L and AMP-L
for dissemination. This situation will be with us for a long time, but
as you know, early intervention and action are best. Now is the time
for us to do play whatever small part we can.
