Response to Microprocessor Knees part 2

As I explained in my original post, I had a patient come into my office wanting a new socket. He was wearing a c-leg. When I explained the situation to the Otto Bock rep, he told me on three different occasions (twice on the phone, once to my face), if I took the course, I would have to purchase a c-leg at the end of the course.I had to weigh the options. Was it worth a $12,000 investment, for a socket replacement? Do I go against principle, and provide a replacement socket without doing the necessary alignment changes the right way? He told me that was OB's policy...no exceptions.
As the following posts will show, he apparently did no more than leave a wagon full of completely processed bull feed at my doorstep.
Mike,
I have never heard that O/B requires a purchase of a C-Leg in order to take the course! I didn't
Mike,
I recently called OB on this very issue (patient needed a socket replacement-me needing cert.), they said no problem. So I'd recommend talking with them again. They even told me that they had patient models available, if needed, for an additional fee.
These were two separate responses from the same person:
Mike wrote: I am not crazy about OB's policy that you have to purchase a unit in order to take the course.
Response: I would not be either, but me thinks you are mistaken.
Mike wrote: The policy came directly fro the OB rep for my region,
Response: I would suggest calling Otto Bock direct and speak to Vicki Wermager 800-328-4058 ext 5172. This is news to me unless there was a recent policy change.
You get the general flavor of the balance of the posts. These post's left me a little dismayed, and wondering what in the deep dark hot place way down below is going on. The silence from OB and the rep who pissed this misinformation on to me (who I know monitors this list) was deafening. That leaves me having to draw some conclusions for myself:
Either this situation is about the commission, always the commission, only the commission, or:
It was done for the kudos they'll receive, the good ol' boys slap on the back for a job well done, stickin a sharp stick in a competitors eye, or:
That's just the kind of a nice guy's they are, putting a boot to the neck, just because they can, or:
some of all of the above.
FYI, this patient did not go back to the original prosthetist. He had no intentions of going back.
To my OB rep...as you sit down for dinner with your young family and watch them enjoy the bounty on your table, the fruits of your labor, I hope that you think about the food you took off my table.
And yes...I am a bit upset besides...
