To: O&P Practitioners
Subject: Request for Information Regarding Frequency of
July and August Medicare Probe Audits by DMERC Region
The National Association for the Advancement of Orthotics and Prosthetics
(NAAOP) is requesting information from O&P practitioners on the recent
frequency of probe audits conducted by each DMERC on O&P Medicare claims.
Specifically, we are trying to assess whether the number of probe audits
conducted in various regions of the country continue to be burdensome on
legitimate O&P providers. If you are an O&P practitioner who has concerns
over the number of audits you received in the months of July and August of
2005, we would like to hear from you. Similarly, if you perceive that the
frequency of probe audits has decreased during these months in your DMERC
region, please contact us as well.
ALL RESPONSES WILL BE TREATED WITH THE STRICTEST OF CONFIDENTIALITY. WE ARE
LOOKING FOR AGGREGATE, ANECTODAL INFORMATION, NOT SPECIFIC INFORMATION THAT
WOULD EITHER IDENTIFY A PARTICULAR PRACTITIONER OR PATIENT.
Please reply to <Email Address Redacted> by sending:
Your DMERC region and the State in which you practice;
A statement expressing your view of the level of burden that these probe
audits have posed in the months of July and August, 2005, including whether
the number of audits have increased, decreased, or remained constant in
comparison to prior months; and
The approximate number of audits you received in July and August of 2005.
NAAOP is dedicated to representing the interests of the O&P practitioner and
patient by advocating for effective public policy. Our constituents' needs
drive our advocacy agenda.
Thank you,
Peter W. Thomas
