To my esteemed colleagues,
I know that a short time ago there was some discussion regarding the silicone AFO from Dorset Orthopaedics in England. I read it with interest, but did not think too much about it until a new patient with Charcot Marie Tooth disease came into my office for new AFOs. He has been wearing bilateral hinged with plantar flexion stops. He has limited dorsiflexion due to tight heel cords so even with the old braces being hinged, he has only about 5 degrees of motion in the braces. He is 71 years old, still employed full time as an insurance salesman, private insurance with Aetna, and walks without canes or crutches. He feels that he is not as stable as before and is looking for something different. I noticed a leg length shortening of about 5/8 inch on one side and corrected that with good results even though it has probably been short most of his life.

He brought in internet information about the Silicone AFO from England that was discussed on the list a few months ago. It's embarassing to ask, but is anyone doing these in the USA? If so, can you please contact me so we can discuss it. Thanks.
