I just wanted to give Sarah Reinertsen a public THANK YOU!
If anyone on the list had a chance to see her interview with Ted Kopel on NightLine ABC Wed. night, she was great. During these times of Reimbursement Freezes and $2500.00 per year OandP caps, Sarah is why we do what we do! Her story from childhood to her 2005 personal goal of conquering the Hawaiian Ironman Triathlon with all the human ups and downs that she has faced.
As practitioners we should find total excitement when we get the chance to be on the same team of those with physical challenges and combine our knowledge, with their passion for excellence!
More amputees need to step up to the plate and talk to the media, and government officials about what their prosthetic components allow them to achieve. Sarah is one example, but what about one of my patients who was bit by a brown recluse spider and walked on crutches with a painful limb for 8 years. He had it removed and has never been so happy. How about a geriatric patient who was getting pressure sores because she sat in her wheelchair all the time. What an absolute success, she can stand up in the kitchen and make dinner for her grand kids!
If we can not document and prove the results of what we do, we may not be allowed to share in these great folks goals and dreams in the future...........
Have a great Evening,
