Dominican and bilateral arm amputee Yovanny Planco recently recieved the
benefits from how multiple organizations and people in the USA can help a
amputee become whole again, even though he didn't live in this country and
does not speak English.
Only in America !
The Barr Foundation, Advanced Prosthetics & Orthotics of America in Orlando,
Florida, G.O. Ministries based in Louisville, Kentucky,
Orlando Regional General Hospital's staff physician John Connolly M.D in
Orlando , Peter Nohre of Otto Bock Health Care and Jack Richmond of
Fillauer/ Hosmer Dorrance joined the team effort which was perfectly
orchestrated and coordinated by Eric Kotter, business development director ,
Nora Rosario ( translator and APOA orthotic fitter and office assistant)
and Fred Estok LP at Advanced P & O of America.
The grand finale and final prosthetic rehabilitation of Yovanny was provided
in a luncheon tribute in Orlando at Lee's Lakeside Restaurant and hosted by
APOA owners, Rod and Stella Friedland, who also subsidized the cost of the
fittings.
All organizations involved were provided special recognition and plaques
were awarded to Karl Hovland and Jack Richmond of the Fillauer Companies/
Hosmer Dorrance Corp and Peter Nohre of Otto Bock Health Care.
After a six ( 6 ) month effort to obtain a medical visa for Yovanny and
his wife Neidi to come to Orlando, finding a residence for them to live in
while Yovanny underwent treatment at APOA for fitting and utilization of
bilateral upper extremity prosthetic rehabilitation.
The hard work succeeded expectations which was displayed at the luncheon for
all to see.
Listed below are the individuals that united to common cause and provide
this independent man to regain his ability to continue supporting his family
and return to the Dominican Republic as a whole person.
Many of whom met for the first time at the tribute were:
Brook Brotzman and Tim Krauss of GO Ministries
Tony Barr, President of the Barr Foundation
John Connolly M.D,Orlando Regional Health Center
Fred Estok LP , Advanced Prosthetics and Orthotics of America
Nora Rosario, Orthotic Fitter / Translator APOA
Rod & Stella Friedland, Principals of APOA
Eric E. Kottner , APOA Business development coordinator
Each Friday we will send a post and similar salute to a person or Hope Donor
whom has made a great difference in a life. Such Whole Again stories
hopefully will help make your weekend and to remind you, knowing that most
of you whom became professionals and industry providers, got into this
business to help people, and that you are accomplishing allot and are
appreciated.
Have a great weekend,
