Dear Mr. Barr:
I have not met you but a friend from Taiwan, CJ Chou, suggested I write.
I am a Christian business man from Chicago, involved in my church, Christ
Church of Oak Brook on the Mission Team. As a representative from our
church, I traveled to Sri Lanka and India in February to visit our partners,
India Gospel League and begin to plan our partnership for the next three
years of reconstruction after the tsunami.
On the West Coast of Sri Lanka, we met a pastor and his family whose 11 year
old son had an amputation of his right leg above the knee after a bout with
rheumatic fever. He is a big 11 year old and his mother carries him
everywhere. India Gospel League is providing a wheel chair but I am looking
for assistance and guidance in developing a plan for this young man.
What is the protocol? Are there used prosthesis that the boy can trade in
and out of until he is full grown? Are there competent fitters in Colombo?
We can help with funding but I am most interested in doing what is best for
him and his family. Any help you can provide is most appreciated.
