Medicare Claims Issues

Dear Colleagues:
I have returned from my second visit with a constituent representative
at my Congressman's office to present a list of issues regarding Medicare's
management of claims for O&P services. I was able to present a number of cases
involving Medicare's requirements for copious amounts of documentation,
duplicate requests for documentation provided with the initial claims, delayed
notification for appeals and reviews, lost or misplaced submitted claim forms and
documentation, denials, partial payments, reviews, ad nauseum. I had suggested
that these problems were a serious challenge to the viability not only of my
own practice, but to the entire profession as well. I would like to convince
my congressman beyond any shadow of a doubt of the magnitude of these problems
and am appealing to any practitioners or practice managers subscribing to this
list to offer some of your own experiences with the submission, processing
and payment of Medicare claims. All replies will be presented to my
congressman's office. While I will not ask anyone to include their name, it would be
helpful if you would make mention of the city, state and region you are
practicing in. It will be interesting to see if there are some regions which are
having more problems than others. Thank you all very much. I will post all
replies in the very near future.
