ORIGINAL QUESTION
We have a patient who wants a lower profile shuttle lock button, so that
we can make the calf smaller without the button protruding. She
currently has USMC system. What other reliable system offers
significantly less protrusion of the button or do you have another
suggestion? Otherwise, we'll have to go to a lanyard system.

My guys use the Ossur Icelock 600 series. It fairly easy to laminate
in. The beauty is you cut the release button to the desired length and
then epoxy or super glue the release button in. Also, it is
significantly lighter than the other systems. We also use the 700
series on our pediatric and UE patients. Have had a lot of success.
The locks can be retro fitted from ratchet to smooth pin without
relaminating. You only swap the core.

Use the ossur pin system with the plastic button. You can cut the
button as short as you want after the leg is shaped.
Try using the Otto Bock shuttle locks (6A20 works well) Cut the
plastic
button end piece to length, and then cut a groove in it to allow you to
still wind in if you wish. The button is ridiculously long and solid
plastic, so it won't crack. Our experience is that it's very rare that
there is a distal end wider than that setup.
Fillauer shuttle locks. you can cut the button shaft to desired length.
The Fillauer shuttle lock button post can be reduced to within
approximately 1/4 of the shuttle body. The body itself is one of the
smallest as well.
Try the original Fillauer Shuttle Lock. The button is on a long threaded
screw that is designed to be trimmed. You can find a picture of it in
the SPS 2002 catalog on page 271. You may also want to consider the
Fillauer Lock on page 275. It has a male pyramid/housing and the release
button can be trimmed all the way down to the housing.
you can use an ossur low profile lock the 600 series i believe...try the
smooth pin it is awesome
I WOULD RECOMMEND A PEDIATRIC BULLDOG LOCK FAB IS THE
EASIEST I HAVE USED BY FAR AND WT. LIMIT IS STILL 180
OR 220 HOPEFULLY IF HER LEG IS THAT SMALL SHE IS NOT
VERY HEAVY
Ossur 600 series is quite low profile.
The answer is to make your own footshell so that you can make the ankle
as small as the pylon/ foot connection. Ossur can give you the specifics
but this is how we do it... Order the Variflex without the footshell.
Glue directly to the bottom of footshell with 1/4 inch non skid heavy
crepe or similar. Use Flexfoot foam to heat and mold to foot/ ankle and
all the way up if you like. Shape to look like foot ( won't have toes or
aesthetic shape this way). Blend in to ankle and calf.
If foot aesthetics are important, you can just cut the footshell way
down and blend in with footshell foam or plastazote.
Ossur's 600 ratchet lock has a very low profile with a plunger that is
adjustable to fit flush upon finish. If you have to stay with shuttle
lock the 211 has a button that you can cut down as well.
