To say the least I found the Academy's position regarding the
APTA disappointing. Nor did I find any clarification in Moretto's letter.
Their position is singularly unconvincing. AOPA has made no secret of its
position regarding direct access, etc. Out of solidarity if nothing else,
AAOP would have been better served if they had just kept their mouth shut,
even if they didn't agree with AOPA. You don't have to render an opinion
just because somebody asks you for one. Sometimes you are better off if you
don't. (Does this dress make me look fat?)

It seems strange that after the fact Moretto suggests closer
consultation among the various organizations. Strange as it may seem, that
was one of the goals of the old unlamented National Office structure. Over
the years I remember a good deal of winging and whining from the Academy
about some initiative or another of AOPA's, and how things could have been
different if they had only been consulted in advance. Seems as though the
Academy didn't learn much from all its complaining.

All in all, a disappointing performance.
