OPAF FEATURED ON RADIO SHOW--WEBCAST NOW AVAILABLE!
Now available on www.opfund.org in streaming-audio format is a recording of
OPAF's December 2004 feature on Breakthrough, a Los Angeles-based
talk-radio program that serves as a discussion forum and information
resource for individuals with disabilities. Breakthrough is sponsored by
American Medical Prosthetics and Orthotics of Van Nuys, CA.
Dimitri Yagdjis, CPO and CEO of American Medical Prosthetics and Orthotics,
co-hosts Breakthrough with the Producer and DJ, Darryl Evans, an
individual afflicted with Post-Polio Syndrome.
Dr. Jeffrey Reznick, Executive Director and Senior Research Fellow at OPAF,
was invited to represent the organization on Breakthrough. In his
invitation to OPAF, Yagdjis cited OPAF's November 2004 informational mailing
to the O&P community. In that correspondence, OPAF described its recent
accomplishments in programs for individuals with disabilities and, through
these and other initiatives, its representation of O&P in public and
philanthropic circles.
Dr. Reznick was interviewed about OPAF, about his expertise in the history
of medicine and prosthetics, and about his book on caregiving during the
First World War, a portion of which addresses the history of prosthetics
during that era. The book, entitled _Healing the Nation: Soldiers and the
Culture of Caregiving in Great Britain during the Great War_, was published
in December by Manchester University Press in the United Kingdom. It will be
distributed in the United States in spring 2005 by Palgrave.
Breakthrough airs every Saturday night from 9:00 - 10:00 pm Pacific
Standard Time on KRLA AM 870. The broadcast reaches a wide area, from San
Diego to Santa Barbara, and it is also available worldwide via KRLA's
website, www.krla870.com
OPAF thanks the producers of Breakthrough and the technology experts at
oandp.com for their generous assistance in making this recording widely
available.
