Dear Colleagues;

I need some professional assistance with what I consider is a unique case. I had a young lady present to our office who is an avid “long distance runner” and has developed Peroneal Palsy (drop foot) following a low back surgery. While she has experienced some moderate return in her dorsiflexion strength she is currently only able to run up to 4-5 miles before needing to stop due to muscle fatigue and ankle instability. She is very interested in increasing her running distance but needs an orthosis to compensate for her dorsiflexor fatigue. I have initially provided her with simple canvas ASO (Ankle Stabilizing Orthosis) orthosis. Knowing that it may help her cause I am afraid it will not be the answer to get her back to her prior marathon status. I am reluctant to recommend anything other than an ASO because I know that it will have to be more rigid and potentially difficult to tolerate running long distances. Anyone have any recommendations or suggestions on Orthotic design that may work for this ambitious young lady. Thank you in advance.
