H.E. Ted Thranhardt, CPO will be presented the Titus-Ferguson Award during opening ceremonies at the Academy's Annual Meeting March 17, in Orlando. The award is the highest level of recognition bestowed upon an outstanding Academy member whose accomplishments and contributions have made a significant impact on the growth and development of the profession. Thranhardt has demonstrated leadership and devotion to the advancement of the Academy and the O&P profession throughout his career.
Arie J. Bud Bronkhorst, CO, FAAOP will receive the Distinguished Practitioner Award in recognition of his personal dedication and leadership to the advancement of the O&P profession. Bronkhorst has a record of sustained contributions and commitment to the advancement of the ideals of the Academy, the Texas chapter, and the profession. He was instrumental in obtaining licensure in Texas.
Two individuals will share the Clinical Commitment Award: Donald G. Shurr, CPO, PT, a significant contributor to postgraduate O&P education, active researcher and frequent lecturer; and Ronald F. Altman, CPO(e), who is a past president of ABC, has served on numerous committees, and is currently helping Cambodia develop its O&P teaching programs.
The Clinical Creativity Award will be given to Marlo Ortiz Vazquez for his work with transfemoral socket design recently presented during the Thranhardt Lecture Series at the 2004 Annual Meeting.
Thomas P. Karolewski, CP, FAAOP, an instructor at Northwestern University, will receive the Outstanding Educator Award, and Honorary Membership will be presented to Mark D. Geil, PhD, Douglas G. Smith, MD, and Jeffry G. Kingsley for their contributions to the O&P profession.
The Academy's 2005 Annual Meeting is co-located with ACPOC's at Disney's Coronado Springs Resort, March 16-19. Hotel room rates are even lower than the last time the Academy was at this hotel.
