Am working with an elderly gentleman with multiple
incisional hernias as well as bilateral inguinal
hernias. He is not a surgical candidate and has LUE
weakness (the severity of this weakness differs
greatly day to day and is often dependent on who he is
working with and the setting).
We have tried, without success, custom abdominal
supports that addressed all five hernias (too
complicated), customized abdominal/TLS corsets that
addressed all the hernias (too complicated and he does
not have the strength to fasten velcro/snaps/straps).
We have also tried various other garments and
combinations of garments to no avail (it looks like
those pull-ups toddlers wear).
We are very well aware that there may not be any thing
that proves satisfactory.
I seem to remember a recent article regarding
supports/treatment options for these types of cases.
It was in no way an article that offered a magic
bullet solution but basically discussed and
illustrated what the author and others had done to
meet the unique needs of this type of challenge.
For the life of me, I cannot remember where I saw the
article.
If you can direct me to the article or if you have any
constructive suggestions, I would appreciate your
response.
