Good Morning and it appears to be a good morning for the Orthotic/Prosthetic
proponents that took part in the NegReg conferences. If I am reading
correctly, Medicare has decreed that only those suppliers that specified
specialty codes 51, 52, 53, 55, 56 and 57 will be able to receive payment
after, July 5, 2005, for prosthetics and custom-fabricated orthotics. The
notice I have read states that specialty codes 51= Medical Supply Company
with Certified Orthotist, 52 =MSC with Certified Prosthetist, 53=MSC with
Certified Orthotist and Prosthetist, 55=Certified Orthotist, 56=Certified
Prosthetist and 57=Certified Orthotist and Prosthetist. Congrats to all who
assisted in this decision.
There are still some questions, in my mind, as to the definitions of
Certified and if state licensure has any status. Also, how will this be
verified?
I think this is long overdue and a good step to start the separation O and P
from DME. Again, a THANK YOU to all who assisted in this decision.
