Hi Dan,
As I have shared with you before with respect to the credibility of ISPO as the international voice of Pand O. That credibility had been in question in terms of its direction and leadership. In recent years it has taken on what I would term as a far more responsible and appropriate role in the international community with its establishment of the various categories of education in PandO which has strengthened our profession I feel and also contributed to its credibility.
I had the oppotunity to read Mr. Michael' s comments and appreciate that the laws in the US, did not serve our shared profession very well in fact I am very saddened by this development in the states which would appear to have been unavoidable from within their borders.
However be that as it may I would look to ISPO to take a stand on the established pathway through examination as the accepted international standard and become involved in support of our American colleagues whoes standards were the basis of the establishment of Oand P in Canada.
You commented on the schools in Canada having varying lengths of programs which may well be true, but I would remind you that the pathway towards certification in canada has remained consistently the same and with a degree program on the books at BCIT in 2006 will represent the first occassion that some adjustment will need to be made for those students.
I don't feel we should compromise what we have achieved as a profession to date internationally and feel that ISPO's categories now established should be upheld. Excuse me while I climb down off of my soap box Dan, thank you for doing this we need more of this type of dialogue.
