Eighteen students enrolled in the GA Tech Masters Program in O&P were among the first to join the Academy under the new Student Member category. We began talking with GA Tech students last year while they helped us by mentoring visiting high school students at the Academy's Annual Meeting in New Orleans, declared Executive Director Tom Gorski. We're very pleased to welcome them to the Academy as members.

The new Student Member category was established by a member vote in April to adjust the bylaws.Since then, 26 students have taken the Academy up on its offer of free membership while a student. A one-time application fee of $15 is all a student pays. Student Members receive a personal subscription to the JPO, member discounts on publications and meeting registrations, plus access to the Members Only area of the website (www.oandp.org). The password-protected Members Only area is where back issues of the JPO are archived in addition to several other items of benefit to students, such as the Research Reference Guide, the O&P Online Graphic Library, advice on how to prepare an outstanding student research project, Best of the Resident Research Series, the Best of the Thranhardt Lecture Series, and more.

Students, as well as residents, are eligible for free membership in the Academy, but must apply. Applications are available on the Academy website or by calling the Academy office at 703 836-0788.
