This list is a wonderful place to exchange information and ideas. I
have personally gathered quite a bit of knowledge here myself and
hopefully I’ve helped a few people along the way. I even enjoy some of
the spirited debates.
Recently a question was asked about whether or not a prosthetist who
does a lot of custom laminating of fabrics to sockets could charge for
this service because he noticed it taking a considerable amount of time.
He received a few answers along with some pretty snide remarks like,
“how long can it take to add a layer of fabric?” and “surely you have a
tech who can make a pattern.” To these responders defense, maybe the
original question should have been “Can I charge for the extra time it
takes when THE JOB IS DONE RIGHT?” I’m glad the prosthetist who asked
the question explained how he does the lamination. Those who posted the
hostile remarks probably didn’t read how the longer process produces a
nicer result. The answers seem to conclude that it is a service that is
provided free of charge by most facilities that offer it at all.
If you do know it all then please share your info with the rest of us in
a friendly, professional manner.
