Greetings Colleagues,
I recently saw a patient with a dominant side long transhumeral amputation and Brachial Plexus Injury. She has no voluntary glenohumeral motion and has not had a GH fusion. She has had problems with GH subluxation. She currently uses a passive prosthesis with locking elbow and wants a prosthesis with prehension.
What level of function can she expect without a GH fusion?
Has anyone had success with a case like this?
External power is not medically necessary, nor would I want to impose that weight penalty on her until she tells me that she does not have enough grip strength.
There is not enough room for a powered elbow.
I do not feel that her GH joint is stable enough for a suction socket.
Ideas?
