The shake up is unfortunate but unfortunately, required.
The OIG reported similar fraud and abuse several years ago by many providers
of DME
Now that you see the drawback of O&P being put in the same bag as DME, tell
AOPA to rid their trade membership association of DME manufactures or you
ll never rid O&P nor lawmakers of the past and present perception that you
are all one and the same.
The patient is shorted proper O&P coverage.
Telling them is one thing, doing something about the perception and reality
of belonging to common industry associations is another.

Click on the link to the insider that is named prescription for fraud?
This kind of thing is a black eye to the entire profession and is not
helpful when dealing with regulators. We have historically told them that
the bulk of the fraud in O&P billing came from non-O&P providers. This sort
of public scandal does nothing to help our credibility, even if it turns out
to be nothing.
