Story Problem: We recently delivered a very expensive knee unit to a Medicare patient, and are not sure whether it will be denied as not medically necessary. The patient signed a waiver stating that he will pay for the item if M'care does not. We will use the GA modifier on the claim. Can we bill the prosthesis assigned, and then the patient pay for any denied L-Codes? Should we, instead, bill un-assigned, and have the patient pay us when he receives payment from Medicare. We have collected a deposit.
Any insight is appreciated.
