As a service to all Florida Licensed O&P's, ASOP (American Society of
Orthopedic Professionals) would like to sponsor the two credits in O&P Law
that are required to maintain the Florida O&P license. Right now the only
way to obtain these credits is to pay $295.00 to attend one day of the
Florida Association of O&P meeting in July. (I also think you can attend
a Board meeting for some credit, but I am not sure on this point)
$295.00 is a bit much for O&P's if you already have enough credits to meet
your CE requirements and don't want to attend the full FAOP meeting. it is
certainly too much for the Licensed Orthotic Fitter or Fitter Assistant. In
some cases this might represent a weeks take-home pay for assistants.
ASOP wants to sponsor the 2 hr CE requirement at little or no charge on
Friday evening, August 27th, the night before the ASOP Casting & Bracing
Symposium in Tampa Bay This extra two hrs will be free to all attendees of
the week-end course ($300.00 for the course). This will bring the total CE
hrs available to over 20. There may be a small charge for everyone else to
help pay for the food and drinks. .
If you feel you are qualified to speak on the this subject, please contact
me so I can submit the proper paperwork to get this approved.

PS. ASOP might consider sponsoring a 1hr CPR course at no-charge as well
during the week-end.
