My Fellow Colleagues
I would like to take this opportunity to encourage all of my colleagues and
especially our Florida colleagues to attend the FAOP/FCAAOP 2004 annual
Scientific Symposium and Business meetings to be held at the Hyatt Regency
Coconut Point Resort & Spa Bonita Springs, Fl. July 15-17th.
The meeting agenda offers a great diversity of continuing education
opportunities specifically designed to suit the needs of all levels of O and
P providers including O and P technicians. The program includes a wide range
of topics presented by several Florida physicians, nationally known
practitioners, technicians, other healthcare and business professionals.
The program offers 20 credits to attendees; in addition they are offering
all of the mandatory course work required to maintain licensure, they are
also providing concurrent scientific sessions for those individuals who
already have met the mandatory educational requirements for Florida
licensure. There are six half -day workshops worth 31/2 credits each and one
full day workshop worth 71/2 credit hours. They are offering the state of
Florida approved 8hour Diabetic shoe course required to obtain fitters
licenses and a one-day technician program. There will be 60 exhibitors and
we will offer a sign in sheet for attendees to obtain up to 2 credits for
visiting exhibitors.
The FAOP/FCAAOP annual meeting is known for its laid back family atmosphere.
The registration fees cover continental breakfast and lunch every day. It
also includes the Friday night banquet, which is always a first class event.
This years banquet is a poolside barbeque with live entertainment from the
rock band Fog Wish. Danny Griner LPO is the drummer for this band and they
are great! In addition, on Thursday evening there is an exhibitor sponsored
cocktail party in the exhibit hall. All of this is included in your
registration fee! No other meeting offers the value for your money. We are
able to do this because of our all-volunteer organization.
The Hotel is beautiful and located on the Gulf of Mexico; the resort owns
its own island and operates a private beach on that Island. There is a
shuttle service or ferry service to and from the Island all day long.
Additionally they have a wonderful Raymond Floyd designed 18 hole golf
course and have a wonderful pool and spa. Our rate is $99 per night. For
complete meeting information go to < <URL Redacted>>
Lastly, this year several organizations have been competing with FAOP here
in Florida for your Continuing education $$$$. While I am no longer an
officer of FAOP I know first hand of the importance of good attendance at
the FAOP/FCAAOP meeting and I cannot overemphasize this point. The FAOP is
almost exclusively financially dependant on this meeting to raise the funds
necessary to represent you and your business interests before the Florida
legislature. The FAOP is totally a volunteer organization and they are self
sufficient with very little overhead, therefore all of the profits go right
back into
Working for you the Florida professional. Not for salaries, for staff, or
directors or buildings you don't own or need to lease or on legislative
policies that negatively impact you or the profession. Don't forget who
truly represents your interest. Compare the various educational
opportunities, programs and the fees, hotel costs from any of these meetings
and you should have money left over after attending the FAOP meeting, then
you can decide if you want to go to the AOPA meeting.
Come to the business meetings of FAOP and FCAAOP to learn about all of the
challenges that the association over came legislatively in Florida this
session and the real and serious challenges we face here in Florida next
session. This session legislation was introduced that if passed would allow
manufacturer representatives to fit anything they sell without any training
other than what the manufacturer deems appropriate. Additionally if it
passed they could do it without a license. Come and find out what happened
and give input into future decisions regarding this issue and others.Get
involved!!!! Come and learn about the progress our organizations have made
with the establishment of an educational program at St. Petersburg College
and get an update on the projected opening. Remember, most of all, FAOP and
FCAAOP work for you and your interests and they need your support.
Thanks Ron
