Hello Jan and List,
I have a related question pertaining to the history of CMS information
requests...
Why are we as prosthetic practitioners required to supply CMS (and private
payors - though they usually just follow CMS) with copies of the Physicians
clinical records? The determination of medical necessity is made by the
provision of a valid prescription, is it not? I wonder what difficulty
pharmacists have in getting paid on claims made under a physicians
prescriptive authority, perhaps they are in the same boat?!?
My follow up question is, when was this made a requirement for payment? Were
there major concerns with medical necessity of devices, if so, why were the
concerns not taken up with the respective prescribing physicians?
Thanks for your time as always...
Sincerely,
Justin Foster, CPO
