In the past 24 hours I have recieved (as I suspect most of you have) an
invitation to receive BOC certification at not immediate cost and a
notification from ABC that they are extending an offer of ABC certification
to any BOC certified practicitioners who care to ask for it. Clearly both
organizations feel that they can undermine the other by co-opting their
membership. I certainly have mixed feeling about this. It makes all the
effort I went thru several years ago to complete my extension of title seem
like a waste of time. I guess I should have just gotten a BOCO title,
except that I really don't believe that.
My real question is, what does ABC hope to accomplish by this attempt to
steal BOC membership. Granted it may damage BOC's membership numbers and
thus their cash flow in the short term. Clearly this has to be a one time
offer or the ABC exam and title will become meaningless. Given that it,
only stands to reason the BOC will continue to certify new practicitioners
and will rebuild it's membership numbers. I guess my point is that making
this offer of ABC certification doesn't seem to gain anything for ABC or
(especially) it's existing pool of certifees.
However you or I may feel about BOC, they are not going to fold up shop and
leave town just because of this stunt. I feel like we have given away the
store. Did I miss something?
